Jonathan Update – 12 Weeks

Well, we have officially reached the 12-week mark. Karen and I are getting into a routine with Jonathan and he is adapting very well to the schedule. For those who know Karen and I, we are strong believers of structure and routine (especially with children). We have had a hard time establishing this with Jonathan up until recently. We went through several sleeping and feeding schedules, but nothing seemed to be working for him. Because Jonathan was so small, he really couldn’t maintain a schedule until he was 9-10 lbs. So, the first of the year he crossed that threshold, and with help from Jamie and Jessica, we found a plan that has worked great for J. We are feeding Jonathan every 3 hours up until a 9:30 PM feeding. He, for the most part, will fall asleep by 10 and sleep a good 7-10 hours. Of course, there is some flexibility with this, but he has been very consistent with the schedule and gives mom and dad a nice night sleep.

Now, when it comes to sleeping patterns, J is hilarious! He squirms and kicks until he has moved himself into the corner or up against the bumper. Then, he fusses himself into a sleepy exhaustion as he tries to figure out how to suck his thumb (and keep it in his month). He really has been a great boy – a definite blessing and patient with his learning, first-time parents.

In case you don’t know, Karen will not return to teaching. She is going to stay at home with J. She is becoming that typical mommy person and I must say she fits the role superbly. She is great with J and he is blossoming so much with her around.

We just visited the doctor for his 3 month visit. He was 23.5 inches long and 12 lbs. So, our boy is growing quickly. I have included some pics of how he looks currently.
