2009 Family Vacation

July is vacation time.  We had just finalized the paperwork for purchasing our second home and we had a couple of weeks to spare before the official closing.  So, I shaved my head and we took Jonathan on his first vacation and nights away from his crib.  He did awesome!  We went down to Largo, FL and stayed with my parents (who were staying there).  There were several firsts for Jonathan on this trip:

  • He got his first pool and ocean experience.  He very quickly found that ocean water did not taste the same as  pool water.  Jonathan enjoyed the Olympic-sized pool in the park where we were staying.  We got some floats for him and he thoroughly enjoyed the full experience.
  • He got some first food experiences as well with watermelon and chocolate ice cream. Yum!

My dad and I took some long bike rides around the Largo area and got to see some beautiful sunsets.

Momma and I got some time together to see the sunset and walk the beach while Grandpa and Grandma stayed with our early-to-bed, early-to-rise boy.

We also had a surprise when we arrived and unpacked.  We found out the queen-size blow up mattress we purchased back in Atlanta did not come with a pump.  Fortunately, a Wal-Mart was nearby and we found a pump. It was not the same brand, but a pump is a pump, right?  We brought it home, but realized it did not fit the mattress so (as with us Hay’s) we found a way to make it work.  My mom and Karen had a blast laughing at my Dad and I as we pumped it up.  Karen was so kind to provide some video of that.

I also broke out in a heat rash (which I initially thought was an allergic reaction to the ocean) and had my first experience with Benadryl – needless to say I was knocked out and my Dad and Karen found great joy in taking pictures of me.

Overall, it was a great vacation and a wonderful time for Grandpa and Grandma to see their grandson and watch him crawl, laugh, and experience many of his firsts.  Below are some pics of the vacation and a video.  Enjoy!
