Joshua Arrived on 10.10.10

All this weekend I kept asking Karen, “Any contractions?” She kept replying, “No, not yet.” It looked as if our Monday morning, October 11, scheduled induction was going to be the day Joshua would come.

However, on Sunday morning, October 10, around 8:30 Karen mentioned to me that she had been having contractions for the past hour. We timed her contractions and they were about 5-6 minutes a part. Needless to say, we hurried to finish our last minute packing and made a quick call to my sister, Brenda, to come over and help take care of Jonathan.

We left for the hospital around 10:00 AM and by then Karen’s contractions were around 3-5 minutes a part. Once we arrived at the hospital they took Karen back immediately. By this time Karen was 4cm dilated and more than ready for her epidural. They moved us to our delivery room and about 45 minutes later the doctor arrived and Karen received her much appreciated meds. In other words, she went off to sleep and I got to watch the Falcons game on a small 15-inch screen who’s fuzzy reception needed a major cable upgrade. 🙂

My mom and dad stopped by for a few minutes on the way to pick up Jonathan – my mom was so impressed by how relaxed Karen was – much different from the day when she had to go natural. Karen’s sister, Jessica, stopped by with some yummy pumpkin bread that nearly did not make it home. She stayed around to help me capture the moment with pictures during the delivery.

Karen began pushing at about 5:30 PM. The nurses called for the doctor and notified her that Karen was ready. The doctor arrived and two minutes later, Robert Joshua Hay was born.

He was 8lbs 9oz and 20.5″ long. He arrived at 6:03 PM. Below is a video recap of the days as well as lots of pics. Enjoy!
